FAIR SHARE Campaign Update    We need your support to create a "village" for our children and increase UC eligibility in local public schools!   To follow up on the success of the admissions campaign, UBAA is organizing the Fair Share Campaign to hold LAUSD high schools accountable for the eligibility rates of Black students.    The goal of the campaign is to ensure that our students get a FAIR SHARE of public resources in higher education, and become competitively eligible (for UCLA, or any other school of their choice) so they may serve as resources to their family and community. The Fair Share Campaign targets Black students at our partner high schools: Carson, Crenshaw, Dorsey, Hamilton, Hollywood and Inglewood, creating a "village" to help more students make it through the pipeline to UCLA. Currently, we're developing a multi-media campaign that includes a promotional DVD, and a mentorship program to provide college advising to students. We are convinced that any long-term effort to achieve equitable levels of African American enrollment at UCLA, in other highly competitive UC schools or in the system of public higher education in California as a whole, will require a focused initiative to increase the capacity of the African American community to secure these outcomes.

The goals of the UBAA Fair Share Campaign are the following:

1. To advocate for school and community responsibility in raising UC and CSU eligibility at each school to the statewide average

2. To develop a promotional campaign encouraging African American students to achieve a model of "holistic development" that includes elements of the holistic criteria included in UCLA's holistic admissions process

3. To support African American educational programs that facilitate UC and CSU eligibility based on a more holistic development model

The Fair Share Campaign will allow us to build on the success of the UCLA African Admissions Campaign. It extends our expectation of equitable admissions and enrollment to all UC and CSU institutions.
