Vice President of Operations

Thuy Cooper

UCLA 1994

My name is Thuy Cooper and I am running for UCLA Black Alumni Association’s (UBAA) First Vice President of Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of UBAA, working closing with the UBAA President and other committees to implement the association’s strategic goals, managing finances, and coordinating events and programs. I am interested in being the next First Vice President of Operations because I am committed to building upon the legacy of previous officers.

Since relocating back to Los Angeles, I have served as UBAA’s membership co-chair and supported multiple activities and committees, including the 2024 Winston Doby Scholarship and Awards Gala, Black to Westwood Homecomings, and the UCLA vs NCCU tailgate. I have also represented UBAA on numerous occasions and provided remarks on behalf of UBAA at Black Convocation in October 2023. These experiences along with holding numerous leadership positions in my sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. – Omicron Phi Zeta Chapter and the DC National Pan-Hellenic Council have afforded me the opportunity to gain the needed skills to be successful in this position.

As the First Vice President of Operations, I intend to work with other officers and the UBAA Board to reach out to our alumni to understand how UBAA can best support them. For UBAA to continue being a thriving organization, we need to recognize that we are multigenerational and should engage with our alumni to get an understanding of their interests so that we plan programs and create experiences that meet the needs of of our members at the different phases of their lives. In addition, I would strengthen our relationship with current students.

Given my commitment to the success of UBAA and experiences, I ask for your vote.
